Can you remember what you were doing in Winter 2004? Most would say they can’t recall what sweater they were wearing two days ago, so it is easy to understand why it would be difficult to remember what was happening twenty years ago.
I recall with vivid memory where I was and what I was doing in 2004, because I formally launched my entrepreneurial career in Berkeley, CA with the formation of tdb group, a boutique management consulting firm. Fast forward to December 2018 when Tammy Dowley-Blackman Group, LLC was incorporated and acquired tdb group to scale nationally. Just five years later the new and larger company was named #85 on Inc. Magazine’s list of 2023 Mid-Atlantic Region Fastest-Growing Private Companies in America.
It is gratifying to have partnered with scores of clients, grown the team, provided pro bono services, and built a company that continues to evolve based on sector needs. As excited as I am of those accomplishments, I am most proud of my company’s audacious vision to Galvanize 1,000,000 Leaders nationally and internationally to ensure we have a workforce ready and able to manage the global complexities we face. We are executing on this vision through our portfolio of projects across three brands: TDB Group Strategic Advisory, Looking Forward Lab, and Cooper + Lowe. In each of these companies we collaborate with leaders of all ages, backgrounds, expertise, and needs.
To celebrate 20 years of entrepreneurship and to continue the effort to Galvanize 1,000,000 Leaders, I am excited that Tammy Dowley-Blackman Group, LLC will launch and engage in several spectacular opportunities throughout 2024:
- Campaign: “What’s Your Leadership” is a series of conversations with dynamic people of varied backgrounds to share thoughts about their leadership style and how they are galvanizing other leaders.
- Fellowship: I visited the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia with my French class when I was a junior in high school. It was my first visit to a museum, and standing in that space I was overjoyed with a sense of excitement and belonging. Years later I began my professional career at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), where I learned community engagement, fundraising/development, public relations, strategic planning, team management, and got my first lessons in the complexity of leadership. These two experiences were transformative and became core to the development of my companies. To honor the power of the arts to change lives and open doors to new opportunities and perspectives, my company will partner with a national arts institution for an important initiative.
- Innovation: Over the years, my company has offered several tools to help clients better manage and evaluate their work. In 2024, we will launch multiple proprietary tools to further support client learning, engagement, effectiveness, and scaling.
- Partnership: It isn’t possible for one person or one company to do everything alone. It is wonderful and fun to work with so many talented internal and external team members. Significant partnerships are on the horizon with amazing sector leaders who combined have hundreds of years of wide-ranging experience and expertise to share.
Thank you for your encouragement, engagement, generosity of spirit, and belief in my company. Here’s to many more years of successful collaborations.
